Sri Lanka is known as one of the most reliable surf destinations in the Indian Ocean since the early 60’s. One of the reasons for this is that you can surf in Sri Lanka at anytime throughout the year. While there is a surf season in the south of Sri Lanka between November to April the east coast opens from May to October. You can still find a good swell outside of the official season as long as you are flexible and listen to the experts. There are many surfing points located on the South and East Coast with Hikkaduwa and Arugambay being the busiest. There are many other secret spots if you are looking for less crowded surf like Unawatuna, Ahangama, Weligama, Mirissa and Yala.
